Jovanie's What's the Move, Pt. 2

In addition to owning and operating the restaurant Wray's Caribbean and Seafood Cuisine for the past six years, Brooklyn’s Jelani (Lani) Wray has served as a music production manager at Humble King Records since January 2020. Jelani Wray also served more than five years as a music production manager with Free Form Productions, during which time he succeeded in signing the singer and rapper Jovaine to Atlantic Records.

Scarcely a teenager at the time of the Atlantic signing, Jovanie Vitale (who performs under the single name Jovanie) is a pop-oriented R&B artist who sings and occasionally raps. Atlantic released his first and only major label album, What's the Move, Pt. 2, on October 30, 2015.

The album yielded three singles: its title track, “What's the Move,” as well as “Whip” and “Ooh Girl.” Atlantic also released music videos for each of these singles. As part of his promotional efforts for What's the Move, Pt. 2, Jovanie opened live performances for successful solo artist and frequent top-level collaborator Ne-Yo.

New York executive Jelani Wray splits his time between pursuits in the music production and restaurant sectors. As a restaurateur, he owns Wray’s Caribbean and Seafood Cuisine in Brooklyn. In this capacity, he’s responsible for inventory management at the facility, along with adhering to food safety regulations, and coordinating staff. Since opening the restaurant more than five years ago, Jelani “Lani” Wray has maintained a high level of customer satisfaction, along with an “A” rating from the New York City Health Department.

Meanwhile, in the music production field, Lani Wray is affiliated with Humble King Records, a music label in Brooklyn. Through this label, he works on finding, acquiring, and supporting new talent for the roster. To this end, he outlines and negotiates deal memos for artists, manages recording budgets, and works with artist management to coordinate signings and other marketing events. Prior to this, Mr. Wray spent six years with FreeForm Productions as a production manager and head of A&R.

Over the years, Lani Wray has been invited as a panelist and speaker at several music conferences, including the A3C 2013 and SXSW 2013 events. In addition, he was a guest speaker at both NYU and Lincoln University, where he spoke about the music business.
